The Prophecy of Dante
Lord ByronThe work was positively reviewed by Francis Jeffrey, as he wrote about it: “It is a very grand, fervid, turbulent, and somewhat mystical composition, full of the highest sentiment and the highest poetry;... but disfigured by many faults of precipitation, and overclouded with many obscurities. Its great fault with common readers will be that it is not sufficiently intelligible... It is, however, beyond all question, a work of a man of great genius.”
The Prophecy of Dante, also known as "La Vita Nuova" or "Il Fiore e l'Acqua," is an authentic 14th-century work by Italian poet Dante Alighieri. It is considered one of his least known but most influential works, as its themes mirror those found in the Divine Comedy. The Prophecy, written in Italian verse, explores the journey of a person grieving for a loved one, whose soul is traversing the stages of death and the afterlife. The text presents a tragic narrative in which the soul's passage is influenced by the qualities of the deceased person.
